Design Manager /Senior Associate

 

Role:

  • An active member of the management structure of SIEC is expected to run a portfolio of projects independently, adhere, enforce and maintain agreed standards within the project teams and provide assistance to the Associates and Managing Partner to improve the overall performance of the Practice.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  •  Assist the Senior Management Team in providing all necessary information required in order to submit fee proposals. This could be an overview, scope, brief, etc.

  •  Review fee proposals to understand and be fully aware of scope and deliverables. These provide the basis of the brief.

  •  Provide a full and detailed appraisal of the project requirements as issued by the Client. This should be detailed enough to offer a full understanding of the project requirements and to ascertain the extent of resources required.   This element is to be discussed in detail with the Associate in charge of the project.

  •  The information gained from the project RFP and appraisal should then be fed into the draft design brief. The Lead is to take sole ownership of this document which must be presented for comment and approval prior to beginning the next stage.

  •  Lead to work with the concept department to realize deliverables on time and within budget.

  •  Client liaison alongside the Project Manager.

  •  Sub Consultant liaison agreeing deliverables, scope, and timescales.

  •  Attendance at meetings and file notes and actions of the meetings.

  •  Coordination of Sub Consultants and Senior Architect/ Job Captain to produce stage deliverables.

  •  Tracking of client approvals.

  •  Schematic design development with the design team.

  •  Local authority compliance.

  •  Ensure each project tracking schedule is current, monitored, and submitted on a weekly basis.

  •  Carefully manage any value engineering and make the Client aware of potential variations to the Consultancy agreement.   This is an important issue that must be managed well and not underestimated.

  •  Orchestrate the detailed design package. Review progress daily with the Senior Architect. Resolve all outstanding issues where Client input is required.

  •  Oversee submissions for building permit and Civil Defence.

  •  Responsible for writing the specification, assisted by the Senior Architect.

  •  Ultimate responsibility for the issued information for each stage of the project therefore each information issue must be checked and approved by the Lead.

  •  Selection with the team of a suitable procurement route to suit the Clients requirements.

  •  Propose tender list. Prequalify all tenderers.

  •  Work with QS regarding BOQ and tender documents.

  •  Agree with procurement strategy and compile a procurement programme.

  •  Attend mid-bid interviews/ Contractor interviews.

  •  Technical compliance review of all tenders.

  •  Review the tender report and propose a successful tenderer to the Client.

  •  Arrange for contract documentation to be signed.

  •  Liaise with Post contract staff to agree with resources.

  •  Arrange and chair the pre-commencement meeting.

  •  Continuous link to pre-contract staff, Client, and sub-consultants.

  •  Role as defined in Lead Engineers role and responsibilities.

  •  Must be comfortable administrating the FIDC contract.

  •  Decide objectives for Senior Architects and Job Captains and track.

  •  Set and maintain acceptable efficiency levels and ‘lead’ by example.

  •  SIEC’s leadership style is based on teamwork, helpfulness, and hard work.

  •  Quality

  •  Ensure that all staff is aware of Company’s Quality Policy and Quality Objectives.

  •  Ensure that the Company Quality Management System is effectively implemented.

  •  Ensure that Corrective/Preventive actions are implemented effectively as required.

  •  Quarterly cascade meeting to be chaired by the lead.

  •  Weekly senior/ job captain meeting to be chaired by the Lead to formally track project programmes.

  •  Track the development of staff communication.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Architect AIA, RIBA, etc– 10+ years of demonstrated experience across all stages of works and a solid understanding of contract administration.
