Ziyad Mahmoud our Director - Architecture at Studio International Engineering Consultants (SIEC) is part of Design Middle East CREATIVE 30 POWER LIST 2021.
The list recognizes the celebrated, influential, and powerful designers and architects in the region.
Ziyad Mahmoud’s career spans over two decades with extensive international experience having lived and worked in Rome, London, Beirut and Dubai.
As one of the key founders of Studio International Engineering Consultants (SIEC) he has played an integral role in helping lead and deliver the quality of service that has helped establish the practice as one of the young leading ones in the United Arab Emirates. He has worked on numerous residential, retail, commercial, hospitality and master planning projects. His ability to work with different international clients and his drive to create excellence in design has helped SIEC to grow tremendously from seven employees in 2014 to over one hundred and twenty people today. The design studio’s achievements were recognized by industry leaders in 2019 when SIEC was awarded the prestigious ‘Architectural Firm of the Year Award’ in the Design Middle East Awards and again in 2021 when SIEC was awarded the prestigious ‘Architectural Firm of the Year Award’ in the Architecture Leaders Awards.
Ziyad’s design approach is based on an architecture that is born out of its environment and that seeks to understand and reflect its social and cultural context. A “less is more” approach with a client centered process that looks at carefully understanding client aspirations and working towards that goal.
With a passion for sustainable living environments Ziyad has been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to manifest this through several community related master planning projects from a new city outside Karachi to the design of Tecom’s Innovation Hub in Internet City, Dubai. More recently he has been working closely with the Dubai government to look at the rehabilitation of Emirati communities across Dubai through strategic and sustainable phased interventions.
He also led the design of the Pulse Mall in Dubai South, an innovative retail project that was also the recipient of the “Retail Project Design of the Year” award at the Architecture Leaders Awards in 2021. Ziyad and his team are currently involved in several of the regions highest profile projects in KSA where SIEC has been commissioned to develop some large-scale mixed-use projects and an airport development.
Ziyad holds an AA Diploma from the Architectural Association in London and is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has been living in Dubai for the last 14 years.
