CIVIL / STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

 

Summary:

The ‘Civil / Structural Engineer’ will be responsible for providing technical support to the Resident Engineer and for reviewing, monitoring, inspecting and supervising all civil / structural works for the construction phase of the Project. He/She shall have the responsibility for checking that the Contractor’s Works are carried out in accordance with the Contract. He/She will also be responsible for managing and other members of the Engineer’s staff (assistants and inspectors).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The typical duties and responsibilities of the Civil / Structural Engineer, will include the following:

 

Project Coordination:-

  • Coordination with Architectural / MEP Disciplines for ensuring Structural / Civil Works are consistent with requirements.

  • Coordination of design issues with H.O. Structural Engineer.

  • Coordination with Contractor / Subcontractor for accuracy and sequencing of works

  • Verify, Monitor and review Contractor’s setting-out of the Works in relation to a coordinated reference point, datum level and bearing.

  • Verification and monitoring of shoring works, piling activities and excavation.

  • Review & verify Setting Out / Layout of structural elements, pile locations, columns etc.

  • Scheduling of site inspections as required and as per WIRs issued by Contractor.

  • Periodically inspect Materials delivered to Site for compliance with approved materials.

  • Arrange Inspections of Civil / Structural elements to confirm accuracy with approved Shop Drawings.

  • Periodically witness Tests and Inspections in accordance with Contract Requirements.

  • Review Contractor’s Proposals for Formwork / Shuttering / scaffolding systems and the like.

  • Inspect Steelwork fabrication / welding / priming and painting.

  • Witness Steelwork erection of critical elements.

  • Periodically verify and inspect all concrete deliveries for compliance with grade of concrete / slump etc.

  • Witness all critical concrete pours as per Concrete pour schedules.

  • Ensure all concrete curing etc. are being carried out as per Specifications.

  • Periodically inspect de-shuttered works for defects and /or non conformities.

  • Witness any stressing / grouting of PT strands for PT Slabs.

  • Inspect sub-structure waterproofing works as required.

  • Review and periodically inspect erection of other civil elements i.e. block work / plastering etc.

  • Ensure that approved QA/QC Procedures are being followed by Contractor.

  • Monitor Contractor’s progress with respect to approved Clause 14.1 Programme.

Submittals Review:-

  • Review Contractor’s Shop Drawings for Rebar / Couplers / Steel arrangements for compliance with Drawings, Bar bending schedules & Specifications.

  • Review Contractor’s Civil / Structural Shop Drawings for compliance with Contract Drawings / requirements and coordination with other disciplines.

  • Review Contractor’s Method Statements for compliance with Contract Specifications.

  • Review De-watering Contractor’s proposals and Method Statements for boreholes etc. for installation of de-watering wells.

  • Review Contractor’s Proposals for Shoring Works.

  • Review Contractor’s Proposals for Piling and sequencing of Enabling Works.

  • Review Contractor’s Proposals for Shuttering / Formwork etc.

  • Review Contractor’s Shop Drawings Schedule and Procurement Schedule.

  • Review Materials submittals for compliance with Contract and Specifications.

  • Review Contractor’s Proposals for Slip Forming arrangement for Shear Walls if applicable.

  • Review Contractor’s HSE plans for compliance with Norms and Statutory requirements.

  • Review Contractor’s QA/QC Procedures.

Meetings:-

  • Attend weekly Progress Meetings.

  • Attend weekly HSE and QA/QC Meetings and identify issues concerning HSE and quality standards. 

  • To attend and report coordination meetings with Main contractor & Sub-contractors.

Reports & Records:-

  • Report comments on WIRs as applicable.

  • Issue Site Observation Notes and NCRs as applicable.

  • Prepare notes of observations on HSE issues for Safety Engineer

  • Prepare notes on QA/QC issues if applicable.

  • Coordinate with Resident Engineer / H.O. and prepare responses to RFIs etc.

To check and verify As-built drawings as applicable.

 

Qualifications & Technical Skills:

  • Min 5 years Experience with university (Civil Engineer)
