PROTECTION ENGINEER

 

Position Summary:

Our newest opportunity is for a talented Senior Public Health & Fire Protection Engineer to join our team based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This position is responsible for working on the design process on one or several projects depending on size, type and complexity. The requirement includes applying sound engineering principles in the development of design solutions and the production of contract documentation and providing direct instructions, guidance and oversight of all tasks conducted by engineers assigned to work on the respective projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the plumbing engineering design of domestic water distribution, drainage systems, compressed air, and gas piping systems, including specialty plumbing systems for new and renovated buildings.

  • Responsible for the engineering design of fire protection systems.

  • Prepare the design of the Plumbing & Fire protection systems to include the completion of code reviews, preparation of the basis of design, system calculations.

  • The use of Autodesk Revit tools to present design and engineering solutions for all projects.

  • Assisting Lead Mechanical Engineer in research, planning, design and development of building engineering systems related to Mechanical Engineering.

  • Work with the Senior Mechanical Engineers to obtain project related approvals from the relevant local authorities.

  • Conduct initial design studies to address specific design problems and challenges.

  • Providing leadership in research, planning, design and development of building engineering systems, including but not limited to fire protection, domestic water distribution, drainage systems, compressed air, and gas piping systems, by providing guidance and instruction to the project engineers.

  • Work under the supervision of the Lead Engineer to perform engineering evaluations, feasibility studies, conceptual and final design, cost estimates, and engineering calculations.

  • Be hands-on and expert working knowledge in BIM (REVIT), CAD, Navisworks, Elite, …etc.

  • Manage activities under supervision within own field of responsibility.

  • Build understanding of design, construction and project management concepts.

  • Communicate effectively at all levels to support collaborative work practices and the achievement of team goals.

  • Maintain Client focus in the delivery of services of the team.

  • Collaborating with team members and colleagues to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy, and to achieve project targets.

  • Liaising with Team leaders, and Design Leaders to ensure sufficient, skilled project resources to deliver to project targets.

Specific Skills

  • A BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University.

  • 10-15 years of broad, international experience in multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Member of a professional institution. Preferably a Chartered Engineer.

  • Super High Rise Residential Building Projects experience in the UAE is a must (G+50 or more).

  • Experience in leading, motivating, and driving teams of engineers of all grades.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in specification writing in CSI Master Format.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in design of automatic sprinkler, standpipe and fire pump systems; clean agent suppression systems, and hydraulic calculations; fire protection system start-up and testing observation.

  • Experience in the design of domestic water distribution, central hot water systems, drainage systems, compressed air, and gas piping systems.

  • Knowledge of the latest local authority guidelines (DM, DDA, DEWA, etc.), UAE Fire and Life Safety Code, and International Codes & Standards (IOP, IGEM, ASPE, CIBSE, ASHRAE, NFPA codes, IBC, FM and UL)
